Amazing coconut oil hacks
Coconut Oil is gaining popularity in the beauty world, its health beneifts and structure means it can be used for a number of things not only around the house, but around your body too.
For the Body
Cuticle Oil: Coconut oil is great for applying to the nails as not only will it strengthen them but it will also help remedy damaged cuticles by moisturising and softening them.
Shaving cream; If you're all out of your regular shaving cream or you want to try something more natural, pick up your pot of good ol' coconut oil. Once your leg is wet, smooth some coconut oil from the knee down (the heat on your skin will help melt it) and simply shave and moisturise as you would usually do. The coconut oil will leave your legs super soft and can stop nicks when shaving, too.
Exfoliator; If you're looking for a more natural approach to exfoliation, check this out. Mix 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of sugar or rock salt for a perfect D.I.Y exfoliator that'll leave your skin glowing! Simply smooth it on and rinse off for skin that is silky soft. You could even add a drop or two of essential oils for a fresh fragrance.
Body moisturizer. Coconut oil is amazing and softening skin, so smooth it on! Apply to your warm skin after your shower for skin that glows. Make sure to only do this 2-3 times a week, though or the oil can build up in the skin and clog the pores.
Heal cracked heels; For feet that are sandal worthy, try applying a generous amount of coconut oil before bed, popping on some socks and going to sleep. You'll wake up with soft, amazing looking feet!
Scar treatment. Scar and stretch mark treatment oils are big business, but you can rely on simple coconut oil to do the job just as well. The vitamin E and antioxidants in the coconut oil help to heal scars over time, so start applying a little today and watch them fade and fade.
Massage oils; Feeling like you need a good massage? Heat up some coconut oil, let it cool a little and use as your very own home made massage oil, its super relaxing and will leave your skin soft and supple.
For the Face
Use to remove waterproof makeup; Melt a little coconut oil with your fingers into a cotton wool disc and use as a powerful but gentle, natural waterproof makeup remover. It will effectively remove all traces of makeup and it can even help your lashes grow longer, too!
Use as a lip balm; Lipbalm is an everyday essential (especially during the winter months) for keeping the lips soft and un-chapped, so why not use your trusty coconut oil in its place ? It has all the same benefits as your lip balm - plus the fact that it is completely organic and isnt hiding any nasty chemicals.
For the Hair
Homemade Hair Mask; Coconut oil is a creamy solid at room temperature, but when it gets warm it turns to liquid form, so while in the shower, melt your coconut oil by running the jar under the warm water. Then, after you've shampooed, apply a generous amount of the oil to wet strands and twist hair into a bun. Let it sit for around five minutes before rinsing to add moisture and shine back into limp, dry hair!
