Simple Gingerbread Men!
The festive season just wouldn't be complete without a little baking, and what says Christmas more than gingerbread?! This seasonal treat is simple to whip up and can be decorated any way you wish! Today, we're sharing our fave gingerbread recipe with you so you can create your very own biscuits at home!
For your biscuits you'll need to gather:
- 400g/4 cups plain flour
- 2tsp ground ginger
- 2tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground allspice
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- 180g 3/4 cup unsalted vegan butter, at room temperature
- 125g 2/3 cups soft dark brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 125g/4tbsp Golden Syrup
- coloured icing tubes
- mix of decorations
- gingerbread man cookie cutter
- To start, sift together your flour, spices and salt into a bowl, mix and set aside.
- Next, put the butter and sugar into a separate bowl and cream them together until light. You can then add in the eggs and golden syrup, mixing until combined!
- Now, add the flour mix into the wet mix, just a couple of tablespoons at a time, combining until your dough is formed.
- You can then separate the dough into 2 halves, wrap them in clingfilm and pop them into the fridge for 3 hours, or overnight if possible.
- When its time to bake the gingerbread preheat your oven to Gas mark 3 / 170C / 325F. You can also take the dough out of the fridge for 10 minutes to allow it to soften a little.
- Next, dust your work surface with a little more flour and begin to roll out one of your dough-balls with a rolling pin to the desired thickness (4mm is ideal).
- Begin cutting out your gingerbread people and set them onto a baking paper lined baking tray, be sure to leave a little gap between each one to avoid them baking themselves together.
- Bake your biscuits in the oven for around 10–15 minutes. Once they're ready, leave them to cool a little on their tray before transferring them to a wire rack where they can cool completely.
- Then, its time for the fun part - decorating! Use your tubes of icing to create cute faces and patterns on your biscuits and, did you know you can even use your Bella&Bear pointed tweezers to place decorations onto your biscuits neatly (just be sure to clean them first!)?
