Home Waxing 101
Is there any nicer feeling than silky smooth skin?! Shaving doesnt last long, and waxes in the salon can be costly and time consuming - so why not try it at home? Today, we're sharing our top waxing tips with you to get that sleek skin feeling in the comfort (and privacy) of your own home!
CHOOSE YOUR KIT!
Waxing can actually be carried out with a few different products. You could opt for cold wax strips which can be warmed with the friction of your hands, or you could choose a warm wax pot with a spatula and strips. If you are a little unsure of where to start we suggest the cold wax strips you can purchase in stores - they have no risk of burning and are simple to place and pull! If you have particularly sensitive skin be sure to opt for a product which will care for your skin while you wax!

BEFORE YOU WAX
. Exfoliate the area - this will soften the hair and prevent ingrowing hairs. Choose an oil free exfoliator, oil will stop the wax from adhering to your skin fully meaning you wont get a clean result. This step is particularly important for the legs.
. Check hair length - if the hair is too short then the wax wont cling properly and if its too long then it wont be pulled out from the root. Be sure that the hair is no less than 1/4 inch but no longer than 3/4 inch.
. Prep the area - avoid creams and moisturisers on the day you will be waxing - again, they will stop the wax from adhering to the skin properly. Dust the area over with baby powder right before you wax to absorb any existing moisture
. Check the temperature - if your using a warm wax pot it is essential that you check the temp before you begin waxing. Use the spatula to apply a small amount of wax to the inside of your wrist, it should feel comfortably warm like a nice warm bath.
WHILE YOU WAX
.Follow one direction - Its best to apply the wax in the same direction as hair growth (keep checking this on each section before you apply), but you should pull the strip off against the grain.
. Be quick - When pulling the strip off, keep it close to the skin and do it in one quick motion, not only will it give a smoother result but it will also help to reduce pain.
. Once, twice - There's no 2 ways about it, waxing is harsh on the skin. Don't over-stress the area by repeating the wax over and over. As a rule, its best to wax one section no more than twice. If any hairs remain after that simply go in with your Bella&Bear angled tweezers to remove them.

AFTER YOU WAX
.Remove it - You may have some little stubborn bits of wax still remaining on the skin, so go over them with a wax remover cream or some baby oil to break it down and get it off
. Avoid heat - try to avoid any excess heat on the area for 24 hours to prevent irritating the skin any further, so skip the hot baths or showers!
. Moisturise - use a fragrance -free or aloe based moitsuriser to soothe and re-hydrate the skin
. Exfoliate - keep those ingrown hairs at bay by exfoliating the area 2-3 times a week, be sure to tweeze them out with your Bella&Bear pointed tweezers to avoid them getting infected.
